What Is GaiaCrete™ Bio-Based Insulation?
GaiaCrete™ is a proprietary bio-based insulation system developed by Mr Hemp House®. Unlike traditional hempcrete, GaiaCrete™ is engineered with misc pozzolans and more for improved fire performance, consistency, and application flexibility. It is used as hemp-lime infill within a structural wall system, as a bio-based alternative to spray foam, fiberglass, and cellulose. Structural framing, engineering, connections, and code compliance are governed by the complete assembly.
Gaia™ Building Systems
GaiaCrete™ is the material at the center of a family of hemp-lime formats. Each format has its own product page.
GaiaBloc™ hemp-lime building blocks
Pre-formed block format for retrofit and new-construction wall infill.
GaiaPanel™ hemp-lime wall panels
Panelized wall system fabricated off-site for faster assembly.
GaiaCast™ cast-in-place hempcrete walls
Cast-in-place application for monolithic framed-wall infill.
Why Building Professionals Choose GaiaCrete™
Performance claims below reflect lab testing of GaiaCrete™ and published hemp-lime research. Results vary by formulation, assembly, climate, and installation.
100+ Year Service-Life Potential
Published hemp-lime lifecycle research cites service-life assumptions of more than 100 years for properly designed, constructed, protected, and maintained assemblies. Lime binders continue to cure over time through carbonation. This is not a GaiaCrete™ warranty.
Class A flame spread rating (ASTM E84)
No chemical fire retardants needed. GaiaCrete™ is naturally fire-resistant insulation — Class A flame spread rated with no added flame-retardant chemicals.
Mold-Resistant by Design
mold-resistant due to high-alkalinity mineral composition per lab testing. The lime-alkaline matrix (high alkalinity) inhibits fungal colonization.
Biogenic Carbon Storage
Stores biogenic carbon in the hemp hurd, and the lime binder reabsorbs CO₂ through carbonation over time. Net lifecycle figures vary by mix, transport, and assembly and are not published as a single number.
No Added VOCs
No added VOCs, with none detected in third-party testing. No formaldehyde, no isocyanates, no flame retardants. Vapor-permeable and humidity-regulating.
Superior Acoustic Performance
GaiaCrete™ naturally dampens sound transmission — reducing noise between rooms and from outside. Quieter homes without additional soundproofing products.
GaiaCrete™ Verified Performance Data

GaiaCrete™ FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About GaiaCrete™ Hemp Insulation
GaiaCrete™ — A Modern Hempcrete Alternative
GaiaCrete™ is a modern hemp-lime building material — a bio-based building solution engineered to support breathable wall assemblies, healthier material selection, and long-lived non-toxic homes. Like traditional hempcrete, GaiaCrete™ uses a hemp-and-lime chemistry that lets walls manage moisture rather than trap it — a foundational principle behind wall assemblies that are designed to support mold-resistant performance when properly detailed.
Where GaiaCrete™ differs from traditional hempcrete is its proprietary blend, formulated to support consistent on-site application, predictable curing, and a finished wall that contributes no added VOCs to the indoor environment. Depending on assembly design, climate, and wall thickness, GaiaCrete™ may improve thermal performance compared with the simplest hempcrete mixes — but the larger story is the system: a breathable, bio-based wall built to keep indoor air cleaner over the life of the building.
For project budgeting, see the hempcrete house cost guide, and to weigh GaiaCrete™ against legacy insulation, read the full GaiaCrete™ vs fiberglass and GaiaCrete™ vs spray foam comparisons. Final performance always depends on assembly design, climate, and installation — the figures shown elsewhere on this page are typical, not guaranteed.
