What is hempcrete insulation?

Hempcrete insulation is a bio-based building material made from hemp hurds (the woody inner core of the hemp plant) mixed with a lime binder. It's carbon negative, mold-resistant, fire-resistant, and provides excellent thermal insulation for homes. GaiaCrete® is our proprietary hempcrete formula with enhanced performance.

GaiaCrete® is Mr Hemp House's proprietary bio-based insulation - a premium hempcrete alternative. It features pH 12+ for mold-resistant protection, ASTM E119–aligned 4-hour fire-resistance rating (results vary by assembly), R-value of 3.2-3.8 per inch, and zero VOC emissions. It's carbon negative and lasts 100+ years. Also available as GaiaBlocs™ — pre-formed blocks for retrofitting and new construction.

How much does hemp insulation cost?

GaiaCrete® hemp insulation costs between $180–$360+ per square foot installed for completed wall assemblies. While the upfront cost is higher than conventional insulation, it provides lifetime value through energy savings, 100+ year lifespan, zero maintenance, and elimination of toxic replacement cycles.

Is hemp insulation legal in the United States?

Yes, hemp insulation is 100% legal in all 50 states. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized industrial hemp cultivation and use. Hempcrete and hemp-based building materials are approved under the 2024 International Residential Code Appendix BL. Mr Hemp House serves all 50 states.
