The Health Difference: Foam vs Lime

ICF walls sandwich a concrete core between two panels of expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam. EPS is a petroleum product that contains brominated or polymeric flame retardants and can off-gas styrene — a compound the National Toxicology Program classifies as a "reasonably anticipated" human carcinogen. The foam also creates a vapor-closed assembly: any moisture that does get into the wall has nowhere to go.
